So summer is finally upon us. We close the book on another successful year at the FLACS Café. We graduated 36 more students from the Cooking Club which brings our total to over 200 FLACS scholars to complete the program since its inception in 2010! Our Tower Gardens were kept in bloom all year thanks to help 8th graders Wascar, Ricky and Natalia. I believe this was our best year ever for the FLACS/LPAC Inspiration Garden. All our Kinder, 1st and 2nd grade students were able to plant seeds and plants that were either harvested and used for lunch or are still growing and blooming in the garden right now. I was able to conduct cooking demonstrations in all 3 FLACS schools. And I haven't even mentioned the food!!! As a chef, it is important to always be learning new recipes and trends. As a school chef, not only must you constantly be learning but you have to adjust to the always changing tastes and desires of your customers...the students. I am constantly learning from your children. We came up with some new recipes, we established Smoothie Thursdays. It is an absolute joy cooking for the students at FLACS and I am looking forward to what the next school year will bring.
Congrats to the graduates of 2016!!! One of the best parts of working at a school is being able to watch the students grow into young adults. This graduating group is full of bright individuals that I have no doubt will go on to great things...maybe there is even a future chef among them!
